Philosophy

At Redwood Christian, our foundation is built on faith, passion, hope, and love. We are committed to nurturing the whole child—academically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally—within a caring and purposeful environment. We believe each child is uniquely created with individual gifts and potential, and we strive to see, know, and support every child for who they are—both within our school community and beyond.

Our program is rooted in the Montessori method, offering a comprehensive curriculum that includes language, mathematics, science, geography, sensorial exploration, practical life, art, music, and physical education. Each area is thoughtfully designed to meet children where they are and guide them toward deeper understanding through hands-on, meaningful experiences, empowering them to grow into their fullest potential.

In language, we introduce the alphabet phonetically, grouping sounds into manageable packets that allow children to transition naturally into consonant-vowel-consonant reading. In mathematics, we focus first on quantity—helping children truly understand what numbers like 5 or 10 represent—before introducing numerals. This approach builds a strong, lasting foundation for mathematical thinking.

Practical life is at the heart of our classrooms. In our early childhood environments, children engage in food preparation, learning to serve themselves snacks and take responsibility for washing, drying, and putting away their dishes. Activities such as transferring and pouring strengthen fine motor skills, develop hand-eye coordination, and increase concentration.

As students grow into our elementary classrooms, practical life continues to evolve in meaningful ways. Students take an active role in caring for their environment by cleaning and maintaining their classroom space. They participate in preparing food together as a class community, fostering both responsibility and collaboration. Fine motor skills are further developed through purposeful work such as embroidery and sewing, among many other activities. These experiences continue to support independence, focus, and confidence, while reinforcing skills that connect directly to academic growth.

Our hands-on approach to learning extends beyond the classroom into our beautiful outdoor spaces. Throughout the week, students spend time exploring and connecting with nature and gaining a deeper appreciation for the world around them.

We also place a strong emphasis on health and nutrition. Our goal is to teach children the importance of balanced meals that include all food groups. We provide both a morning and an afternoon snack each day, offering two options at each snack time so children can make their own choices. All snacks contain 8 grams of sugar or less, and we are mindful of food allergies, striving to serve items that are safe and inclusive for all students.

At Redwood Christian, we are not only building strong academic foundations—we are cultivating independence, responsibility, strong character, and a lifelong love of learning rooted in faith, while guiding each child to grow confidently into who they are created to be.
